Rosa Grena Kliass has worked for half a century to create landscape designs and conservation plans that celebrate the unique natural and cultural riches of Brazil while addressing the needs and desires of the Brazilian people. Her work ranges from parks in dense urban centers to broad environmental areas focused on preservation.
A common thread throughout her career has been her collaboration with botanists, geographers and planners. Kliass received a degree in architecture from the University of Sao Paulo (USP) in 1955. While at USP, she concentrated her own studies in the area of landscape architecture. Since the 1960's she has been dedicated to the professional fields of landscape architecture and urban design. Kliass received her master's degree in 1989 with the completion of her thesis, "Evolution of the Urban Parks in the city of Sao Paulo."
In 1970, Kliass established her office of landscape planning, Rosa Grena Kliass Paisagismo Planejamento e Projetos Ltda. She went on to help establish KRAF Environmental Planning in 1986. Kliass has been associated with numerous governmental institutions as well.
A longtime leader among landscape architects in Brazil, Kliass helped found the Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP) in 1976. She served as president of this organization for various terms from 1980 to 2000. Kliass has been
