The River Raisin watershed is increasingly impacted by the agricultural, industrial, and urban pressures of land use and pollution. A watershed management plan will guide water and land uses within the watershed to ultimately improve and protect water quality. The components of this team project generated data and information relevant to the creation of a watershed management plan. Several topics were pursued by the team. A synoptic water quality assessment, as a requisite of the planning process, was conducted to quantify nutrient contributions at the subwatershed level. A GIS of land use change and history of the watershed was created for the River Raisin Watershed Council. A dam removal rubric was created to evaluate over fifty dams on the River for the suitability of removal and river restoration. In addition, a system of reporting ecosystem health was accomplished through subwatershed report cards and score cards.
