Funding Abstract:

Anchor QEA is an environmental science and engineering consulting firm whose expertise and focus is in aquatic-based remediation and waterfront development projects. To promote and help support those who have chosen these fields of study, Anchor QEA has established a scholarship fund to assist graduate students in their pursuit of higher education. Individual scholarship awards will range in value from $500 to $5,000 and be provided to the recipient’s institution of higher learning to be disbursed to the student for graduate school tuition and supplies.

To increase the presence of underrepresented minorities on the nation's college and university faculties, to enhance diversity on campuses, and to address the persisting effects of past discrimination, the Ford Foundation offers fellowships to members of six minority groups whose underrepresentation in the professoriate has been severe and long-standing. The dissertation fellowship provides individuals of demonstrated ability the opportunity to complete the dissertation required for a Ph.D. or Sc.D. degree.

Dissertation Completion Fellowships

Funding Abstract:

The American Council of Learned Studies, with the support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, has initiated a new foundation to provide financial support for young scholars to complete their dissertation and, later, to advance research after being awarded the Ph.D. The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation/ACLS Early Career Fellowship Program will award fellowships in two categories: Dissertation Completion Fellowships and Fellowships for Recent Doctoral Recipients. A grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation supports this program
The Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowships are to assist graduate students in the humanities and related social sciences in the last year of Ph.D dissertation writing. The program aims to encourage timely completion of the Ph.D. Applicants must be prepared to complete their dissertations within the period of their fellowship tenure or shortly thereafter.

Pending confirmation of funding, the American Council of Learned Societies will offer support for writing dissertations in East European studies in all disciplines of the humanities and the social sciences.

Funding is offered for two types of support:

  • Research Fellowships for use in Eastern Europe to conduct fieldwork or archival investigations.
  • Writing Fellowships for use in the United States, after all research is complete, to write the dissertation.

The fellowship provides up to three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based master's or doctoral degrees in the fields of science, technology, engineering, social science, and mathematics. The Shell Marine Habitat Program is a partnership between the Shell Oil Company and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). Frank M. Chapman Memorial Grants

Funding Abstract:

The Frank M. Chapman Memorial Fund of the American Museum of Natural History was set up by Ms. Elsie M. B. Naumburg in memory of Dr. Chapman, a long-term Chairman of the Department of Ornithology at the Museum. Grants for research in several aspects of ornithology are supported by the Fund. A Committee composed of Curators in the Ornithology Department at the Museum, along with the Museum's Richard Gilder Graduate School and other representatives of the Museum and non-Museum communities, handles the administration of the Fund and the grants.

Funding Abstract:

The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI), is a division of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and maintains research facilities for marine and terrestrial research at various locations on the Isthmus of Panama.  Short term fellowships (STF) are available for research in the areas of ecology, anthropology, paleontology, paleocology, evolutionary biology, molecular phylogenetics, biogeography, animal behavior, neurobiology, soils sciences, and physiology of tropical plants and animals.

The purpose of the Dissertation Fellowship is to offset a scholar's living expenses while she completes her dissertation. The fellowship must be used for the final year of writing the dissertation. Applicants must have completed all coursework, passed all preliminary exams,  and had the dissertation research proposal or plan approved by November 15, 2009. The doctoral degree must be completed no earlier than April 1, 2011, and no later than June 30, 2011.

Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships

The Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships are designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values in all fields of the humanities and social sciences, and particularly to help Ph.D. candidates in these fields complete their dissertation work in a timely manner. In addition to topics in religious studies or in ethics (philosophical or religious), dissertations appropriate to the Newcombe Fellowship competition might explore the ethical implications of foreign policy, the values influencing political decisions, the moral codes of other cultures, and religious or ethical issues reflected in history or literature.

Martin McLaren Scholarship

Funding Abstract:

A graduate academic year in the U.S. for a Briton and a work-study program for an American at universities and botanical gardens in the U.K. Purpose is to foster British-American relations through the interchange of scholars in horticulture, landscape architecture, and related fields.
The McLaren scholar is able to combine practical experience and study at several institutions. She/he is expected to arrive in England during the summer to allow adequate time for visits to sites of horticultural interest. The program for the academic year provides period for study, research and practical work at the famous ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS at Kew and Edinburgh, as well as an optional university semester, when the fellow may have the opportunity to pursue a research project under the guidance of an advisory panel. The Martin McLaren trust provides for the major costs of housing, board, tuition and an allowance for personal needs during the American student's year in Great Britain. All travel arrangements to Great Britain are made by The Garden Club of America. Any additional funds for personal expenses exceeding the allowance are supplied by the candidate. The student is responsible for providing a passport and student visa, or any other documentation with accompanying medical requirements, photos, etc.

Funding Abstract:

The Individual Advanced Research Opportunities Program (IARO) provides fellowships to professionals with terminal degrees, master's students, and predoctoral and postdoctoral scholars and from the United States for individual long-term policy-relevant research in Europe and Eurasia. The US Department of State Title VIII Program, the primary source of support for the IARO Program, supports research topics that strengthen the fields of Eurasian and East European studies, and that address US foreign policy interests in the region, broadly defined. Historical or cultural research that promotes understanding of current events in the region is acceptable if an explicit connection is made to policy relevant issues, broadly defined. Limited funding is available for predoctoral humanities scholars.

Funding Abstract:

The NSF awards Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants in selected areas of the biological sciences. These grants provide partial support of doctoral dissertation research in order to improve the overall quality of the research, to allow doctoral candidates to conduct research in specialized facilities or field settings away from the home campus, and to provide opportunities for greater diversity in collecting and creativity in analyzing data than would otherwise be possible using only locally available resources.
Proposals whose focus falls within the scope of any program in the Division of Environmental Biology, or the Animal Behavior or Ecological and Evolutionary Physiology programs in the Division of Integrative Biology and Neuroscience are eligible.
Applicant must have advanced to the candidate level, and usually must be in their final year of writing.

MSGC offers three awards:

the MSGC Pre-College Education Program: This award program is designed to promote projects that encourage and enrich the study of mathematics, science, or technology for K-12 students.

Created to promote the conservation of rare and endangered flora in the United States through the programs of the Center for Plant Conservation headquartered at the Missouri Botanical Garden.
