Public Lecture & Digital Exhibit by Bradley Cardinale
'Biodiversity and the Functioning of Ecosystems'
Bradley Cardinale received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 2002 where his research examined restoration of
algal and invertebrate diversity in streams influencing the recovery of ecosystem processes such as primary
production, nutrient cycling, and decomposition. Following his Ph.D., Bradley held a postdoc position at University of
Wisconsin-Madison where he developed and empirically tested new mathematical models that detail how
biological diversity of natural enemies (predators, parasites and pathogens) impacts the frequency of pest
outbreaks in agricultural systems. Bradley is currently Assistant Professor at the University of California-Santa Barbara in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology.
