- PhD Gradcare Request [PDF-fillable]: PhD students in the fifth or sixth year of their doctoral program who are making satisfactory progress, as defined in the SNRE PhD Student Handbook, are eligible to apply for the gradcare and dental plan paid for by SNRE. Eligible students receive an email; the email is sent out prior to each term (fall, winter, spring/summer). Review takes 1-2 weeks.

Funding Resource Samples for Doctoral Students from the SNRE Financial Aid Database:
- The Rackham Graduate Student Research Grant provides up to $1,500 for pre-candidates and $3,000 for Candidates.
- Doctoral students can apply for the SNRE Dissertation Research funds: $1,000 as a pre-candidate; $1,500 as a candidate.
- Graham Environmental Sustainability Initiative (GESI) Graduate Fellowship Program.
- National Science Foundation (NSF) Dissertation Improvement Grant--very competitive. Three relevant NSF directorates have this type of grant:
- Biological Sciences (includes environmental)
- Engineering (includes environmental systems, and design and manufacturing)
- Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (includes psychology, anthropology, and economics)
- NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) Very competitive.
- US/ED Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowships Must apply through the UM International Institute.
- International Institute Individual Fellowships
- U-M Institute for Social Research (ISR) Innovation in Social Research Fellowship
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Fellowships for Graduate Environmental Study - Application period opens July 2008. Website hasn't been updated yet.

- One-Term Dissertation Grant--one term of funding. Around 15 students are nominated each year; SNRE may select 4. Submit materials through OAP.
- Pre-Doctoral Dissertation fellowship (12 months). SNRE may nominate up to 5 students for the University- wide competition. Submit materials through OAP.
- US/DoE (Department of Energy) Graduate Research Environmental Fellowship
