Description:

*This course will be offered again in Winter 2018*

Ever wonder how non-profits are different from for-profit organizations? What does it take to work in a non-profit organization? Are there differences in international vs. domestic non-profit work? With more than 1.6M organizations and US$15 trillion contribution to GDP in the US alone, the non-profit sector represents a complex and dynamic sector of economic and social activity. This course is designed for students interested in the management of non-profits. We will cover the essentials of non-profit management including a historical overview of the sector. The course will focus on principles and practice of non-profit management, organizational behavior, management models, leadership, finance and fundraising, accountability, and relations with business and government. We will rely substantially on a case-based approach, with students expected to develop cases as a final assignment and able to take advantage of the recent case-development initiative supported by the University.
