We seek to understand how human alteration of the environment impacts biological diversity on the planet and, in turn, how biodiversity loss can affect ecological processes that are essential to humanity. Our research helps guide efforts to conserve and restore ecosystems. We work mostly in freshwater environments, but frequently extend into marine as well as terrestrial habitats as we attempt to gain new insight and find generalities.
