Description:

This course is offered in Winter A.

Identifying and understanding the people and organizations that may be affected by or have an effect on environmental policies and plans is challenging. The quantitative method of social network analysis, or “network mapping,” can serve as a tool for (1) identifying stakeholders to include in environmental policy and planning processes; (2) evaluating potential for communication, collaboration and problem-solving among stakeholders; and (3) increasing understanding of the social landscape in which environmental decisions are made. Through lectures, hands-on data analysis and presentations by guest speakers from organizations and agencies this course will introduce students to social network analysis and its application in environmental and sustainability fields.
